Talent Sources
The Department has twenty-two orthodontic specialists and a sufficient number of clinic auxiliaries. Most of the orthodontists have been well trained or qualified in prestigious dental schools in the US, Japan, Australia, Korea, and Hong Kong SRA.
Dr. Shen Gang, the Department Chairman, is now taking the position as Honorary Associate Professor of the University of Hong Kong.
Clinic Strength
The Department is playing a leading role in national arena of orthodontics with its cutting-edge advances in clinic commitment. State-of-the-art orthodontic approaches, including Standard Edgewise Technique and Straight Wire Technique, are applied with sophistication in treating a variety of malocclusions, e.g. teeth crowding and protrusion. Functional appliances are also advocated for modification of unfavorable growth pattern of the jaws. Orthodontic intervention is conducted as an important part of team approach for cleft lips and palate. Department has renowned achievements in orthodontic involvement in pre and post orthognathic operation. Orthodontic treatments for jaw joint disorders and sleeping apnea are also among the clinical agendas of this Department.
Academic Achievements
Academic atmosphere in this department is intensified with implementation of extensive research projects. Recent years have witnessed more than one hundred publications by the staff in renowned refereed journals.
Departmental Management
The departmental administration is conducted with international standard in an attempt to upgrade the efficiency of clinic, teaching and research commitments.
Mutual understanding and respect is emphasized for the relationship between doctors and patients. Patients deserve the best treatment whilst doctors need the highest regard.
